Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 match record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
