The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
