The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, while other scenes show the main character exploring a abandoned church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core gameplay loop revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
