The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting With the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first World Series following 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 total playoff homers, placing him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation other than him with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the wrong side of this game," he remarked.
Toronto secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
