The Actress Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she finds it inappropriate appropriate to speak out countering the Trump administration, fearing it could worsen divisive discussions and increase separation throughout the country.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains the Actress
Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence in any way on electoral choices.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has previously been open about supporting conservative and liberal candidates over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and explaining she realized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was opposing her own rights as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “since I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend reproductive rights.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence celebrities have over the electoral decisions was underscored by the outcome.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” said the actress of his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”
Latest Film
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her mental health in a remote area. During a press conference for the project in the film festival, the star spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by expressing that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discourse of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be accepted to the children today. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
Lawrence sought to redirect outrage about the situation to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the recent commitment supported by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to boycott specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
The actor, who won an Oscar early in her career for her part in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her portrayal in Die, My Love. Although the director has denied the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, she said that she connected with parts of her film narrative after the birth of her second son, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she commented, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a medication called the prescription and I used it for 14 days and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was expecting and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, about having to cast off vanity. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
