That Grisly Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Viewers

Out of every adult-oriented animated films I have ever watched, nothing has remained with me as much as the fear-filled finale of the graphically gory and highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.

Back in 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director crafted a dark, melancholy and frequently brutal world that included a few small , forlorn glimmers of optimism.

While The Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from an impulse to push animation further, the director clarified that it was more an effort to express a widespread, multicultural message about “the shared root of all wars.”

This theme is communicated by means of a group of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly modeled after a well-known series of cuddly figures.

Growing up in a society focused on aggression and the military-industrial complex, many of these creatures are consumed by exterminating unicorns, because of a religious scripture that tells them they were once kings of the woods, until the horned beings drove them out.

Others did not entirely bought into the propaganda, and prefer to sample narcotics and mate in the forest.

In contrast to their cuddly equivalents, these bright beings show genitals and obvious sex drives.

For a certain particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the conflict with unicorns transforms into a road toward dominance — and particularly to dominance above his softer, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.

Bluey acts as a tormentor and an obvious psychopath , and when terror overcomes his unit and kills his comrades individually, he seizes more and more control on his own behalf, in increasingly gory, destructive ways.

Simultaneously, the unicorns are suffering their own terror, in the form of an expanding, destructive monster in their forest.

“At the beginning, it feels like a comedy,” the director stated. “However it becomes a more intense and melancholic film. And ultimately, it’s a scary feature.”

Unicorn Wars begins similar to one of the most whimsical films from a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing drawn beings curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.

Subsequently it evolves into something more like a darker movie by that same director, including ever more graphic violence and a palpable relation to the real suffering of battle.

Ultimately, it is a complete Grand Guignol massacre.

The horror that makes the film a Halloween-friendly movie begins much sooner than that description suggests.

Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore gorehounds, for lovers of extreme cinema who desire to view something they’ve never seen on-screen before, and can endure a plot which delivers no restraint.

Watch it in a dimly lit space free from interruptions, and the finale will dig under your skin and stay with you.
