Man That Grabbed Ariana Grande at Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality that leaped across a fence and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was given a sentence to more than a week in detention for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," Singaporean immigration authorities told news outlets.
He forced his way beyond security and charged at the celebrity, who was present at the Asian debut for the film on 13 November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and star-studded occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.
The event caused anger in Singapore, with many claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at her concert in Manchester in several years ago killed over twenty people and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to jump the barricades. Protection personnel prevented him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared videos appreciating the celebrity for permitting his access and said he was "released."
Authorities detained him the next day and charged him with disorderly conduct, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was referenced by Channel News Asia as remarking that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was mistaken to assume he would not experience repercussions.
The actress has not addressed the incident.
Erivo mentioned the incident to the press, stating that she "just wanted to verify my colleague was secure."
"I believe he had no intention to us injury, but you never know with these incidents, and I wanted to ensure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she said.
