'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Young People Await Information After Ski Resort Blaze
The relatives of teenagers unaccounted for after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an painful wait for official news and pleading for any details about their children publicly.
The blaze engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Circulated video reveal the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which killed four dozen individuals and injured another over a hundred. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work still underway to identify the remaining few.
In the meantime, loved ones have been posting on social media to request any news about their loved ones who were present at the venue that night.
Appeals for the Missing
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his parent.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, told a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She explained that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has confirmed that a number of of its citizens have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, who hailed from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "talented young man who embodied dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the venue.
"A companion informed me they ran away after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers said, "I remember his good nature and smile, combined with great responsibility. Often offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.
Her brother has published an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are continuing to monitor the case.
