Alleged Stalker Inquired: 'Yet What If I Am Madeleine?'
A woman indicted with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly left her a phone message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told communication data and data retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most covered child disappearance cases and is still open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another phone message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Isn't that important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I just want to discover," the message continued.
The jury was told that by means of electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a effort to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who gathered the information, told the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I will persist and I will prove my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in the county in December 2024.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the period leading up to the appearance to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court was told message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, considering endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from cutlery at a eating establishment.
"We have to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their residence, the defendant transmitted a communication which stated: "We're currently sat outside the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I wanted to accomplish this with another person I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
