Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
