A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season present a multitude of pastimes far superior than catching up on the updates: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and employing deep breathing to refrain from snapping at relatives. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements surfaced during the holidays, and just in case you overlooked some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking announcement, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt further production. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not been disclosed yet.
